Best Time to See the Northern Lights in Alberta
Your best chances are around Edmonton and further north. At dark spots like Elk Island National Park the aurora shows on quite a few clear nights each season, usually low in the north and overhead in strong storms. Jasper's dark-sky preserve, at about the same latitude, gets regular displays. Calgary and Banff, further south, see it less often, when activity is higher.
Come between late August and mid-April. September–October and March tend to be the most active; in June and July the nights are short and only briefly dark.
