Northern Lights in Ireland

Best Time to See the Northern Lights in Ireland

The aurora is rare in Ireland. It takes a strong storm, so expect a handful of nights in a good year. Your best chances are on the north and west coasts, in places like Malin Head in Donegal, where you look north over the sea with almost no light pollution. From Dublin, get away from the city lights to somewhere with an open view north. Look between September and March, when the nights are long, and keep an eye on the cloud.
